SIAPS Workshop: Swiss Innovation for Astrophysics and Planetary Science

January 20-22, 2026, Bern, organized by NCCR PlanetS, Workshop website

The workshop will feature the Swiss technical expertise with the scientific needs of upcoming national and international programs for (1) ground and space telescopes and instrumentation and (2) in-situ experiments and instrumentation. It will bring together the Swiss engineering partners from Universities, Universities of Applied Science, national Research Centers, and Industry engaged or interested to support technology development for Big Science. Thus, SIAPS will establish a national coordination platform to promote long-term planning and collaboration for the next-generation of instruments for ground and space missions. An invited talk on the EST technological challenges will be presented by Prof. Svetlana Berdyugina, CH-EST coordinator.

Workshop in honor of Dr. Oskar Steiner

June 13-14, 2025, Muralto, Organized by IRSOL, Workshop website

An international workshop was organized to honor scientific achievements of Dr. Oskar Steiner, former leader of the IRSOL group working on MHD numerical simulations of the solar and stellar atmospheres: “Pathways to and from the Sun with OSKAR (Outstanding Simulations based on Knowledge, Algorithms, and Research)”. Topics ranged from in-depth research in solar physics to applications in teaching physics related to everyday life, for example, with a cup of coffee, and some reflections on the borderline between science and philosophy.
