Solar Flares and Eruptive Events

Solar flares and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are sudden releases of magnetic energy that drive Space Weather, potentially impacting Earth. EST will provide the high-speed, high-resolution capabilities needed to observe the “trigger mechanism” of these eruptions before the explosion obscures the details.

Key Objectives:

Impact on Space Weather: Improve our ability to predict solar storms by understanding their fundamental physical drivers.

Magnetic Reconnection: Observe the small-scale physical processes where magnetic field lines snap and reconnect, releasing massive energy.

Pre-flare conditions: Identify the magnetic configurations that lead to instability and eruption.
