- coordinate participation in large international programmes and space projects
- inform each other about the ongoing research
- establish PhD student and postdoc exchange
- provide joint lecture courses in solar physics at Swiss universities
- organize nation-wide workshops in solar physics
- organize national research camps for students in solar physics
For other Swiss scientists
- inform about the solar physics research
- promote interdisciplinary collaborations
For Swiss government and SNF
- provide an expertise for project evaluation
- promote industrial applications of scientific results and instrumentation
Internationally
- incorporate Swiss solar physics into the world-wide network of virtual solar observatories
- establish a collaboration network with Swiss solar physicists working abroad
Public outreach
- on a regular basis inform media about major events and achievements in solar physics
- provide a contact for public interests
- establish a training network in solar physics for school teachers
